History

The First United Methodist church has a long and rich history in Holton dating back to 1859, when a Methodist Circuit Rider held the first service in an improvised tavern. Services were later moved to a school house and  were held there until the close of the war. The first church was constructed in 1867. A second church was built on the orginal site and was completed in 1902. A new 6 acre plot west of town would be the home of the third and current church. Many items from the 1902 church are incorporated in the current building, such as the pipe organ, arched wooden doors, stained glass, bell tower and corner stones
