The Ad Council acts as the administrative agency of the congregation. The Church (or Charge Conference) meets once a year to approve personnel, budget and other business matters. It is the responsibility of the Ad Council to carry out the plans of the church.
The Ad Council is required to meet once per quarter; however, at First UMC the Ad Council meets once per month, except July.
LIBRARY COMMITTEE

The Library Committee is responsible for the Church Library.
This committee meets meets when necessary.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
No fewer than 3 and not more than 9 members (one elected Chair)
A minimum of 1/3 shall be laywomen and 1/3 laymen

This is the only UMC committee where a non-member of the church may be a member of the committee; however, 2/3 of the Trustees must be members of the local church.
Chairperson must be a member of the local church and is the Trustees’
representative on the Administrative Council. The Trustees choose their chair at the first
meeting of the year.

The Board of Trustees supervises and maintains all property belonging to the congregation so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective. They should work closely with the Administrative Council to respond to God’s call.
The Trustees are required to meet at least once per quarter; however, at First UMC the Trustees meet once per month.
MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

The Memorial Committee makes recommendations for appropriate memorials with funds given to the church for a particular memorial. The committee consults the family, makes recommendations and gets approval from the Board of Trustees.
This committee meets once per quarter.

The Committee on Lay Leadership proposes to the Annual Charge Conference the names of church members to serve on committees and in leadership positions.
This committee usually meets two or three times prior to the Annual Conference, but is an active committee and will meet when lay leadership is needed to fill vacant or vacated positions.
STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE
No fewer than 5 and not more than 9 members
Elected for terms of 3 years each
1 member must be a young adult
All members must be members of the local church
Lay Member to the Annual Conference is a member

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee serves many of the same functions as a Human Resources Department or a Personnel Office. They evaluate each employee’s job performance annually and recommend compensation matters to the Administrative Council / Charge Conference at least once per year. Chair must be elected at Charge Conference.
The committee is required to meet at least once per quarter.

AUDITING COMMITTEE

This committee is appointed by the Finance Committee.
The committee is made up of people who are NOT related to any person who keeps any of the financial records for the church.

This committee plans worship services and special services a quarter at a time. This planning should include outlines of worship, scriptures, music and special worship events. This committee also evaluates past worship services in order to make future worship services effective.

This committee is responsible to encourage new people to visit and be included in our church and to make visitors and newcomers feel welcomed into the congregation.

This is an “Ad Hoc” committee, meaning “for this purpose.” The committee’s purpose is to challenge the congregation toward new and innovative ministries and generate a plan of ministry. This is the committee that suggests new programs and ministries and/or changes to the current program.
This committee meets as they feel a need and at the current time is meeting once per month.
